Sumter races called; Baker, Ragin win at large school board seats, Davis upsets Galiano for City Council

Ragin takes close race over appointed incumbent Disney for 2nd at large seat

With all precincts reporting in Tuesday’s midterm general election in Sumter County, The Sumter Item is calling races for local seats.

Republican incumbent Murrell Smith has won the race for District 67 of the State House of Representatives. He currently has secured 82.21 percent of the vote.

Frank Baker and Shawn Ragin have won the race for the two at large seats on the Sumter School Board. Baker currently has 24.48 percent of the vote, and Ragin has 18.23 percent. They both beat out appointed incumbents Bonnie Disney and William Byrd. Bonnie Disney came in third to be upset with 17.23 percent of the votes.

Brian Alston has won the District 1 seat on the Sumter School Board, currently with 38.59 percent of the vote, with the next top vote-getter at 22.43 percent. Voters only could choose one candidate to win.

Sherril Ray has won the race for Sumter School Board District 2. She currently has 40.44 percent of the vote.

Matthew Mac McLeod has won the District 3 seat on the Sumter School Board with 40.34 percent of the vote, currently.

Incumbent Bob Galiano has been upset up Colin C. Davis for the Sumter City Council Ward 5 seat. Davis currently has 51.48 percent of the vote. Galiano has 32.65 percent.

With 100 percent of the precincts reporting, Lee County voted in favor of a Capital Project Sales and Use Tax by 55.76 percent of the vote.
