FROM STAFF REPORTS

Santa has again asked the Sumter Police Department to help collect and deliver Christmas wishes from local children, according to Tonyia McGirt, public relations officer for the department.

McGirt says a special mailbox was dropped off by elves at the front of the police department at 335 N. Lafayette Drive and is ready to collect letters to Santa Claus.

Letters placed in the box by Friday, Dec. 18, will be taken to the North Pole. Santa will be working hard to write back before Christmas.

No postage is needed, but make sure to include a return address.

"In addition to honoring the meaning of the season, Christmas is a time to create memories and add a little magic to our lives, whether young or old," Chief Russell Roark said. "We certainly appreciate the opportunity to work with Santa and make this holiday extra special for local children."
