Sumter man charged with claiming lottery winnings with stolen ticket

Terrell D. Carter, 19, of Sumter, was arrested on Friday by S.C. Law Enforcement Division agents in connection with attempting to claim winnings from a stolen S.C. Education Lottery ticket.

Carter was charged with influencing the winning of a lottery prize through coercion, fraud, deception or tampering. The felony carries a penalty upon conviction of a fine of up to $50,000, up to five years in prison, or both.

SLED investigated the case at the request of the S.C. Education Lottery Commission.

Carter was booked at Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center in Richland County.
