The Sumter County Interagency Transition Team of the Transition Alliance of South Carolina will host a free Student Resource Night at 220 Hasell St. from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday.

"It's for students with disabilities at the three high schools (Sumter, Lakewood and Crestwood)," Student Resource Night Committee Chairwoman Cylisa Quarles said. "It will give students and parents information for a seamless transition for students to their post-secondary lives."

The Sumter County Interagency Transition Team consists of representatives from Crestwood High School, Lakewood High School, Sumter High School, Sumter School District Office, Sumter County Disabilities and Special Needs Board, South Carolina Department of Disabilities and Special Needs, Sumter County Vocational Rehabilitation and a parent representative.

"We want to get people connected to local agencies or other companies to assist students with post-secondary outcomes," Quarles said.

Dinner and childcare will also be offered.

"We want to make it where parents can get there and not be taxing on them," Quarles said.

This event has taken months to prepare for.

"We've been working on putting it together since July with agencies that are part of the Sumter County Interagency Team," Quarles said.

The event will help students and parents learn more about the community resources available for students with disabilities, including health care and insurance resources, assistive technology, education, community living, employment resources, interviews and work experiences.

For more information, contact Quarles at (803) 481-4480 extension 4211.
