Sumter County Education Association to meet Wednesday

The Sumter County Education Association - Retired (SCEA-R) will meet at noon on Wednesday, Nov. 15, at the North HOPE Center.

The General George L. Mabry Jr. Chapter 817, Military Order of Purple Heart will meet at 6 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 16, at the Sumter Combat Veterans Group building, 529 N. Wise Drive. All Purple Heart recipients and those interested in association membership are invited. Life membership is available for only $25. Call (803) 773-0658.

The SAFE Federal Credit Union Easy Street Dinner will be held at 6 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 16, at Seawell's Banquet Facility, Rosewood Drive, Columbia. This dinner is for members of the Easy Street Club, SAFE members who hold an Easy Street checking account for individuals age 50 and older. Dinner is $15 per person, and reservations can be made at any SAFE branch or by calling (803) 469-8600. SAFE will also provide a luxury bus for members who would prefer a ride from Sumter to Columbia for the dinner. A round trip bus ticket costs $5. There will be prize giveaways, and Terence Lonon and the Untouchables will provide music.

Clarendon One Community Resource Center Lifting Literacy, a partnership between Clarendon School District One and Save the Children, will launch the Enriching Communities computing project 6-8 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 16, at 1154 Fourth St., Summerton. This event will feature the distribution of 50 Endless One computers to preselected famlies. There will be vendors and door prizes. Dinner will be served. Call (803) 485-2043.

Rembert Area Community Coalition will host its 2nd Annual Greater Sumter County Region Health Fair from 1:15 to 5:15 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 18, in the first floor main meeting room of the Sumter County Library, 111 N. Harvin St. Call (803) 420-1255.

The annual Sumter Christmas Parade, presented by the Evening Optimist Club, will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 3, on Main Street.

The Lee County Christmas on Main will be held on Saturday, Dec. 9. Chicken bog plates will be available beginning at noon. At 2 p.m., there will be a car show as well as arts and crafts vendors. The lighted parade will begin at 6 p.m., featuring Mr. and Mrs. Claus as well as cookies and hot chocolate.
