Sumter coroner: Pediatrician died of natural causes

The longtime employee of Sumter pediatrics P.A. who was found dead at his residence Tuesday evening died of natural causes, officials confirmed.
Dr. Carl G. Whetsell died from a heart issue, an autopsy conducted Wednesday morning found, according to Sumter County Coroner Robbie Baker.
The Sumter Item followed up on this report in response to comments on social media that speculated Whetsell's body was discovered in a public area and to confirm that another doctor with phonetically the same name is not the deceased individual.
