Successful alumnus to give Morris College fall address
Mandrake T. Miller will deliver the address at the annual fall convocation at Morris College at 10 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 13, in Garrick-Boykin Human Development Center. Morris president Dr. Leroy Staggers will preside.
Miller's student affairs career has flourished from appointments at Livingstone College, Bethune-Cookman College, Chowan University and Virginia Union University. He has gained experience from responsibilities ranging from residence life and housing to campus ministry and student life and development to name a few. The immediate past dean of students at Tuskegee University, he was recently appointed vice president for Student Success and Engagement at Edward Waters College in Jacksonville, Florida.
Miller earned a Bachelor of Science Degree from Morris College and a Master of Science degree in Organizational Leadership from Grand Canyon University, where he is completing the Doctorate of Education in Organizational Leadership with a concentration in Christian Ministry. He is also an ordained minister and a veteran of the United States Army. He is married to Mrs. Shaquana Miller, and they have a 3-year-old daughter, Madison.
In addition to recognizing members of the freshman class, as well as new faculty and staff members, the convocation serves two purposes: one, to formally open the academic year and, two, to encourage, inspire and motivate students to take every advantage to strive for excellence. The occasion is also used to wish seniors the best in the final year of their undergraduate studies.
In addition to students, faculty and staff being in attendance, alumni, parents and visitors from the community will also attend.
