"It was a lot of fun for our consumers," said Angela Salisbury, day services director at CCDSNB. "We do this to provide our consumers with meaningful activities. We want them involved in activities that non-disabled individuals are involved in."
Fourteen consumers and four staff members headed to Sumter's Sip & Gogh, named after the master painter Vincent van Gogh, a Dutch Post-Impressionist painter who created his masterpieces in the late 1850s.
The men and women along with the staff members returned to Manning a couple of hours later with masterpieces showcasing their own creativity with assistance from painting instructors at Sip & Gogh.
Salisbury said the CCDSNB attempts to get its consumers out into their local communities so they can begin to become familiar with them.
According to Salisbury, "We will promote life in a community where all people are treated equally," is the vision of the CCDSNB.
"We strive to get them involved in as many activities as we can," Salisbury shared.
Throughout the year, the consumers are entertained with various events, including a gala where formal attire is provided for the consumers. In prior years, the consumers have enjoyed a Hawaiian luau, a disco night and other themed events.
The adult day services provided by the organization include: career preparation, employment services, community service and day activity services. Other services that are offered include case management, Clarendon Walking & Talking and family support.
Residential services include four facilities: Community Training Homes 1 and 2, Community Residential Care Facility and a Supervised Living Program. Nursing services are offered to each CCDSNB residential consumer.
