Sarah Bernice Brunson departed this life and entered into eternal rest on Sunday, May 20, 2018, at her home, 5505 Raymond Jenkins St., Sumter.

She was born on Tuesday, Feb. 12, 1929, in Lee County, to the late Frank and Sallie Rufus. Sarah Bernice attended Dicks School in Sumter County. At an early, she joined Mount Olive AME Church of Woodrow, where she was a faithful member until her health began to fail. Sarah was a faithful member of the Colclough Missionary Unit and also a member of the Twelve Tribes in Sumter. Sarah enjoyed cooking, shopping, eating out and reading the word of God.

She leaves to cherish her precious loving memories: eight children and their children, Anna D. Clarkson of Sumter (Julia Clarkson and Shirley Tention), Marion Brunson and Katherine Brunson of Blackville (Earl Ray, Rachel Mazza, Wayne Brunson, Bernice Shaw and Marian Buckner), Sallie Tention of Brooklyn, New York, (Eric Tention), Sarah McDonald-McDaniel of Sumter (Kim Smith, Reynold McDonald and Derrick McDonald), Annie Shaw (Issac) of Sumter (Shontel Wright, Latawtay Peacock and Santana Shannon), Ruth Anna Blanding-McClary (Marion) of Sumter, Vakenya Latrille Rhems, Larry Blanding Jr. (Thandi Bonsiwe Blanding), and Matthew Rufus of Sumter (Matthew B. Rufus and Xaviera Q. Nickens); seven special nieces, Mary White, Marie Rogers, Janice Rufus, Ollie Bolden, Jackie Rufus, Bernice Harcum and Shirley Davis; two nephews, John Knox and Williams Knox; 22 grandchildren; 41 great-grandchildren; 19 great-great-grandchildren; seven special godchildren, Larry Brunson, Herbert Lee Cabbagestalk, James Ray, Gary Ray, Pamela Smith, Aaron Lowdy and Clara Gallishaw; a host of other nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her sister, Bertha Knox; brother, James Rufus; son-in-law, Earmus McDaniel; two sisters-in-law, Maggie Pearson and Carol Thompson; and best friend, Rose Lee Ray, who we know is up in heaven laughing and talking.

Public viewing will be held from 1 to 6 p.m. today at Job's Mortuary.

Mrs. Brunson will be placed in the church at 10 a.m. on Friday for viewing until the hour of service.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday at Mount Olive AME Church, 2738 Woodrow Road, Dalzell, with Pastor Friendly Gadson officiating. Interment will follow at Mount Olive Memorial Gardens.

The family will receive friends at her home, 5505 Raymond Jenkins St., Sumter.
