RUTH T. YOUNG

Posted

Ruth Adger Taylor Young was born on Aug. 21, 1931, in Clarendon County, a daughter of the late James H. and Cora Bostic Adger. She entered into eternal rest on June 6, 2018, at her home.

Ruth was educated in the public schools of Clarendon County. As a child, she joined St. Mark Baptist Church in Pinewood, where she accepted Christ at an early age. Her love of singing began at St. Mark where she, her mother and her sisters sang with various choirs. She later joined Salem Baptist Church, where she was a longtime member of the adult choir, the trustee wives, the mothers' club, and participated in numerous other ministries. In her later years, "everyday" she looked forward to Sundays so she could go to Salem, the church she loved so dearly.

She was employed at Williams Furniture factory in Sumter for many years. After retirement, she continued her education at Sumter Area Technical College (now Central Carolina Technical College) and became certified as a patient sitter.

As a young adult, she married the late Preston Taylor Sr. and to this union six children were born. After his death, she later married the late Clarence Young Sr., who brought to this union one son and two daughters, one of whom preceded them in death.

Due to the death of her eldest son, Preston Jr., in the Vietnam War, she became a Gold Star mother. She was a longtime member of American Legion Auxiliary Unit 0202.

In addition to her parents, husbands, son and daughter, she was preceded in death by three sisters, Willie Mae Billie, Louise Wilder and Annie Lou Adger.

She leaves to cherish her memory: four daughters, Bessie (the Rev. M. Lee) Henderson and Diana (Greg) Hatton of Atlanta, Geneva (Arthur) Williams of Ladson and Kim (John) Fusaro of Bloomfield, New Jersey; three sons, William (Rebecca) Taylor of Sumter and Goose Creek, Bishop Keith (Lutherine) Young Sr. of Douglasville, Georgia, and Alfred (Beverly) Taylor of Atlanta; a special "daughter," Daisy M. Moore of Pinewood; one brother, Abraham Adger Sr. of Plant City, Florida; 12 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

The family is receiving relatives and friends at the home, 3021 Prosser Ave., Sumter.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday at Salem Missionary Baptist Church, 320 W. Fulton St., Sumter, with the Rev. Dr. Cartrell W. Woods Jr., pastor, eulogist.

The remains will be placed in the church at 10 a.m.

The funeral procession will leave at 10:20 a.m. from the home.
