Roger Keith Shipley, 49, died on Wednesday, May 17, 2017, at McLeod Regional Medical Center in Florence.

Born on Sept. 30, 1967, in Sumter, he was a son of Sarah Troutman Shipley and the late George Walton Shipley. He was a member of Southside Baptist Church and was employed by Piggly-Wiggly on Calhoun Street for 29 years. Roger was also the custodian at St. John United Methodist Church.

Survivors include his mother of Sumter; a brother, Phillip Harris Shipley (Penny) of Sumter; a niece, Micki Carolyn Shipley; and several aunts and cousins.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday at Southside Baptist Church with the Rev. Jimmy Holley, the Rev. Tommy Atkinson and the Rev. Larry Brown officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Memorial Park cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Fred Shipley, Tom Bochette, Dwight Mixon, Rob DuBose, Pete DuBose and Robbie Barkley.

Honorary pallbearers will be the employees of Piggly-Wiggly.

The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. on Tuesday at Southside Baptist Church and other times at the home, 17 Wilson St.

The family would like to thank all of the employees and supervisors at Piggly-Wiggly, Dr. Suchinda, Dr. Villanueva, as well as the doctors, nurses, and staff of Palmetto Health Tuomey and McLeod Regional Medical Center, and all of you who helped the family have a little more time with Roger before we had to say goodbye.
