ROGER DURANT

Roger Durant, husband of Alice M. Durant and son of the late Essex Sr. and Dora Durant, was born on Nov. 7, 1955 in Washington, DC. He departed this life on Wednesday, June 6, 2018 at his residence.

He accepted Christ at an early age and became a member of Calvary Missionary Baptist Church. Roger loved the Lord and lived life accordingly. He showed love to everyone he knew and never made himself a stranger.

He was educated in the public school system of Sumter County.

Roger was joined in holy matrimony to his soul mate, Alice McKnight Durant on Sept. 15, 2007.

Early in life, Roger's first employment was with Roofco Company, where he worked as a roofer for a number of years. He always showed his love and affection for others. His smile was welcomed to anyone he met. He would always lend a helping hand no matter where he was. Roger's memories will always be remembered.

Roger's memories will be cherished by his loving and devoted wife, Alice Durant of the home; two sons, Dayne (Sara) Durant of Sumter and Charles Smith of Tampa, Florida; four grandchildren, Iynala Smith of Tampa, Florida, and Tashiana, Tylasia and Tashira, all of Sumter; two great-grands, Karter and Karson Powers of Sumter; two sisters, Sardora Simmons and Betty Ann Durant of Sumter; eight sisters-in-law; five brothers-in-law; three aunts; and a host of nieces, nephews other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Essex Durant Jr. and Donald Durant; three sisters, Feola Durant, Beverly D. Harris and Carolyn D. Parrott; one niece, Stephanie Durant; and one nephew, Timothy Martin.

Public viewing will be held on Monday from 2 to 6 p.m. at Job's Mortuary.

Mr. Durant will be placed in the church on Tuesday at 1 p.m. for viewing until the hour of service.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Salem Chapel & Heritage Center, 101 S. Salem Ave., Sumter, with Rev. Dr. Ralph W. Canty Sr. officiating

Interment will follow in Calvary Baptist Church Cemetery in Pinewood.

Job's Mortuary, Inc., 312 S. Main Str., is in charge of arrangements.
