Driver in fatal hit-and-run that killed Rembert pedestrian remains at large

Authorities continue to search for the driver involved in a hit-and-run that resulted in the death of a 41-year-old man in Rembert early Saturday morning.

Devin Dinkins died at the scene after he was hit by an unknown vehicle on TB Wright Road near Scotts Branch Road at 5:14 a.m., according to Sumter County Coroner Robbie Baker and South Carolina Highway Patrol Lance Cpl. Matt Southern.

Next of kin has been notified and an autopsy is scheduled for Monday in Newberry.

According to Southern, the unknown vehicle was traveling west on TB Wright Road when it struck Dinkins and later fled the scene.

More information about the vehicle and incident were not available as of 12:30 p.m. Saturday.

The incident is being investigated by the SCHP Multi-disciplinary Accident Investigation Team.
