Cool and dry - that's the weather forecast for Thursday evening's 20th Annual Carolina Backcountry Oyster Roast.
While oysters are the draw of the annual social event, barbecue, chili, collards, beer, wine and soft drinks will be on the menu from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Sumter County Museum, 122 N. Washington St.
One of the biggest fundraisers for the museum, tickets are $40 for members, $50 for non-members and $55 at the door (if remaining).
Though the museum will have oyster knives and gloves available, if you have your own oyster knife and gloves, please bring them. The museum will also provide melted butter, saltines and paper towels.
Be prepared to eat mass quantities of oysters as baskets full of steaming hot oysters in the shell are dumped out as fast as they can be eaten on the long tables.
