PAUL V. HAWKINS

Posted

Paul V. Hawkins, age 93, "slipped the surly bonds of earth" and completed his final mission on Saturday, Nov. 24, 2018.

He was a son of Guy Lee Hawkins and Minnie Plemmons Hawkins of Wellford. Paul was a lifelong aviator and retired from the South Carolina Air National Guard as a lieutenant colonel, having trained as a pilot in the Army Air Corps in 1945. He flew numerous airplanes during his career, including the F-104A Starfighter, but his favorite was the P-51 Mustang. He had a lengthy career in the insurance industry, rising to serve as director of general services for South Carolina. Paul was a faithful member of the United Methodist Church and supported it with his whole heart. For him, "prayers, presence, gifts and service" were a guiding and continuous part of his life.

He was predeceased by his wife of 72 years, Alene B. Hawkins, who was the love of his life. He has missed her dearly and is undoubtedly thrilled they are together once again.

Paul truly loved all things outdoors including hunting, fishing and farming; he often included grandchildren and other friends and family while enjoying these activities. All who were with him warmly remember these many adventures.

He leaves to cherish his memory: Randy Hawkins (Judith), Geanne Behr (Gene), Linda Schofield (Rocky) and Cathy Seymore (Jeff); 12 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson. He is also survived by one brother and two sisters.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 15, at Bullock Funeral Home with luncheon and visitation with the family to follow.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be directed to Mount Holly United Methodist Church in Rock Hill; Hospice of Charleston; the World War II Flight Training Museum in Douglas, Georgia; or a charity of your choice.
