Patricia Ann Hastie Lewis, 67, wife of Kenneth Lewis, entered rest on Monday, Oct. 8, 2018, at Palmetto Health Tuomey.

She was born on Feb. 2, 1951, in Sumter, a daughter of the late Deacon Titus Hastie Sr. and Bertha Mae Dupree Hastie. Patricia attended Bates Elementary, Savage Glover, Bates Junior High School and graduated from Lincoln High School in 1968. After graduation, Patricia entered Morris College. In 1972, she graduated Cum Laude from Morris College with a bachelor's degree in elementary education. She continued her passion for education by receiving her master's degree in education from Furman University.

Patricia moved to Columbia in 1978 to continue her career in education. She taught at Virginia Pack Elementary School, initially teaching the third grade. However, she wanted to teach the first grade to make a difference. Due to her many years of dedicated service, she received several accolades. She retired in 2001 from Burton-Pack Elementary School.

Patricia's success spread from the classroom to the community in numerous ways throughout her life. At New Bethel Missionary Baptist Church, Patricia served as a church school teacher, nurse's aide, member of the Young Women's Association and a member of Missionary Circle 2.

Her precious memories will be forever cherished by her loving husband, Kenneth Leroy Lewis; stepdaughter, Ebony Gibson; brother-in-law, Bobby Bennett; sister-in-law, Carolyn; two nieces, Dr. Terry Sears of Baltimore and Berita (Rodney) Sherman of Houston; grandniece, Bria Sherman; aunt, Lucille B. Hastie; uncle, Porter Gaymon; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Patricia was always encouraged by her favorite scripture, John 14:1, "Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me."

Patricia was preceded in death by two siblings, Julia H. Bennett and Titus Hastie Jr.
