P-15's fall to Rowan County for first loss

NEWBERRY - The Sumter P-15's suffered their first loss of the American Legion baseball season on Saturday, falling to Rowan County, North Carolina, 7-2 in the North Carolina-South Carolina Challenge at Newberry College's Smith Road Complex.

Rowan County jumped out a 7-0 lead after three innings, scoring twice in both the top of the first and second and three times in the third.

Sumter, which fell to 6-1 on the season, scored its two runs in the fourth. Drake Thames reached with a double and scored on a Jackson Hoshour triple. Hoshour came in on a Dustin Kennedy double.

The P-15's finished with nine with Hoshour and Kennedy getting two apiece.

Josh Bryant took the loss, giving up four earned runs in 1-plus innings. He walked five and gave up three hits.

Jacob Holladay pitched three innings, allowing three runs, all of them unearned. The P-15's committed five errors.

Tanner Epps pitched three hitless innings to close out the game.

Sumter plays twice today in the challenge. It takes on Randolph County beginning at noon followed by Shelby at 2:30 p.m.

Both games will be carried on WWHM-FM 92.3, WWHM-FM 93.3 and WWHM-AM 1290.

Camden 15

Dalzell-Shaw 2

DALZELL - Camden Post 17 scored five runs in the top of the first inning as it defeated Dalzell-Shaw 15-2 on Friday at Thomas Sumter Academy's General Field.

Camden added six runs in the third and four more in the fifth. The Jets dropped to 4-7 on the season.

Dalzell finished with six hits, two of them coming from Malcom Brown. One of them was a solo home run in the fifth.

Tyler Warren also had two hits, including an RBI single that scored RJ Reed in the fourth. Reed reached on a walk and stole second base.

D-S committed four errors as only eight of the runs were earned.

Dalzell plays at Florence on Monday before returning home on Tuesday against Lake City.
