Mildred Sanders-Taylor departed her earthly home on May 16, 2017, at Palmetto Health Richland hospital, Columbia.
Born on Dec. 31, 1936, in Sumter County, she was the eldest daughter of the late Clifton B. and Dolly M. Johnson. Spending time with her family was her passion. She was a member of the Household of Ruth and enjoyed fellowship with her sisters. Mildred Johnson and Garland Edward Sanders were united in marriage until Garland was called home on Oct. 17, 1976. Together they raised eight children. After being alone for several years, Mildred met and married the Rev. Eddie Taylor, who became a loving and respected member of her family.
Mildred is survived by her children, Lt. Col. Phillip Sanders (Carolyn), Gwendolyn Blackwell (Anthony), Leonard Sanders, Dr. Patricia Sanders-Fears (Joseph), Jacqueline Sanders-Hart (Willie), Sharion Sanders-Davis (Gerald), Sonya Sanders, Tonya Sanders-Commander (Eugene) and Darryl Bufford; a sister, Rosa Lee Barfield (Walter); a brother, King David Johnson (Geraldine); 13 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; 11 nieces and nephews; and a host of adoring relatives and friends.
Celebration of Life services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday at Congruity United Presbyterian Church, 3750 Congruity Road, Gable, with the Rev. Alonza Washington, pastor, officiating.
The family is receiving relatives and friends at the home of her brother, King David Johnson, 260 Booth Branch Road, Sumter.
A wake service will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. today at the John Wesley Williams Sr. Memorial Chapel, Williams Funeral Home Inc., 821 N. Main St., Sumter.
The procession will leave at 10:20 a.m. from the home of her brother.
Interment will be in Congruity United Presbyterian Church cemetery.
