Matthew Dease, of Houston, Texas, transitioned from his earthly home to his heavenly home on Wednesday, June 27, 2018. Born in Sumter County, he was the son of the late Burnie and Mattie Dease. He was educated in the public schools of Sumter County and later earned his Bachelors Degree from Benedict College and his Masters in City and Regional Planning from Ohio State University. He was a retired Senior Planner and Developer for the City of Houston.

In his early years, he was a member of the Joshua Baptist Church, where he served as a member of the adult choir.

He leaves to cherish his memories: a devoted niece, Penny Dease Wright, and her children, Joi, Dove and Eddie Wright; special cousins, Clotell Way, Janie Boyd and Leola Boyd; and a host of other relatives and friends.

The family will receive relatives and friends at the home, 213 Pinckney St., Sumter.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. from the John Wesley Williams Sr. Memorial Chapel of Williams Funeral Home Inc., 821 N. Main St., Sumter, with Elder Dorothy Maple, officiating, and the Rev. B.J. Jefferson, eulogist.

The procession will leave from the home at 10:30 a.m.

Burial will be in the Joshua Baptist Churchyard Cemetery, 5200 Live Oak Road, Dalzell.
