Mary Ellen Coleman King departed this life on Thursday, May 31, 2018, at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center.

She was born on Jan. 25, 1953, in Sumter, the youngest of four children to Ellen Coleman and the late Harold Coleman. She was educated in the public schools of Sumter County and attended Sumter Area Technical College. She met and later married Frankie King. Their union was blessed with three children, whom she loved dearly.

Mary worked as a mental health and behavior specialist for more than 20 years with the state of New York, before retiring and returning to her hometown. She worked in this field for a short time for the state of South Carolina, before fully embracing the retired life.

She leaves to cherish her memories: a mother, Ellen Coleman; children, Simone Tanaisha, Kerensa Jaylene and Frankie Jr. (Jeannette); grandchildren, Kayden, Jenybel and Kash; siblings, Minnie and Harold (Shirley); sister-in-law, Lucille Hampton; brothers-in-law, Jasper King, Henry King Jr. and David (Kathy) King; and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.

She was preceded in death by her father, Harold Coleman; her husband, Frankie King Sr.; her brother, Sammy Coleman; and a grandson, Marcus Xavier King.

Public viewing will be held from 2 to 6 p.m. today at Job's Mortuary.

Mrs. King will be placed in the church at 10 a.m. on Saturday for viewing until the hour of service.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday at Salem Chapel & Heritage Center, 101 S. Salem Ave., Sumter, with Elder Duane Kyles officiating and Elder Terry Dinkins, eulogist.

Interment will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday at Florence National Cemetery in Florence.

The family will receive friends at 665 Duffie Drive, Wedgefield.
