Marian Grace Schaefer Foster, age 87, beloved wife of the late retired Lt. Col. Thompson Reed Foster Sr., died on Wednesday, Nov. 21, 2018, at Covenant Place.

Born in Waukesha, Wisconsin, she was a daughter of the late Ernest A. and Grace Sayles Schaefer. Mrs. Foster worked for many years in the cafeteria at Alice Drive Elementary School and was affectionately known as "The Lunch Lady." She was very devoted to her family and was a caregiver to many. She enjoyed entertaining and was a very talented decorator. Mrs. Foster was a great cook and often cooked for the folks in the prison ministry. She was a long time member of the Church of the Holy Comforter, where she sang in the choir. Mrs. Foster also enjoyed her time as a singer and served as secretary for the Sumter Civic Chorale.

Surviving are one daughter, Allison Foster Hager and her husband, Loren, of Columbia; one son, Thompson Reed Foster Jr. of Sumter; four grandchildren, Tiffany Foster, Naomi Hager, Jacob Hager and Roxanne Munn; two brothers, Rock Schaefer and Lamont Schaefer and his wife, Luann, all of Waukesha; two sisters, Jeannie Nowak and her husband, Lonnie, of Long Lake, Wisconsin, and Shirley Schultz of Pembine, Wisconsin; one brother-in-law, Bill Holland of Waukesha; and one sister-in-law, Sue Schaefer of Waukesha.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by one brother, Ernst Schaefer; and two sisters, Judy Holland and Joyce Rizzo.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday at the Church of the Holy Comforter with the Rev. Charles F. Walton and the Rev. Marcus A. Kaiser officiating.

The family will receive friends immediately following the service on Friday at the Church of the Holy Comforter.
