One man is dead after he was shot at an auto repair shop on South Pike East about 4:30 p.m. on Saturday.

Ken Bell, public information officer for Sumter County Sheriff's Office, said he did not have information on where, nor how many times, the man was shot but said the man died at Palmetto Health Tuomey.

At least two witnesses said the suspect approached the victim and exchanged a few words before allegedly shooting him, Bell said. The witnesses said there was no argument before the shooting, he said.

Bell said the suspect fled the area after firing the gun and is still at large.

He said investigators are still searching for the suspect, and more information will be released when available.
