Mae Mixon Cockerill, 91, died on Sunday, May 6, 2018, at Palmetto Health Tuomey.

She was born on Feb. 27, 1927, in Sumter County. Mrs. Cockerill was a member of Providence Baptist Church and attended Green Acres Assembly of God. She retired from Campbell Soup Co. after 25 years of service.

Survivors include 10 children, Barbara Baker (Joe), Rosemary Nesbitt (Marion), Ceasar Cockerill, John Cockerill (Brenda), Silas Cockerill, Newton Cockerill, Leroy Cockerill (Margaret) and Ruth Ann Dixon (Ray Paul), all of Sumter, Libby Hutto (Jimmy) of Denmark and Mikey Cockerill of Greenville; 19 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Joe Cockerill; two sons, Thomas Cockerill and Eddie Cockerill; and a grandson, Thomas Cockerill.

A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. on Wednesday at Providence Baptist Church with the Rev. Pat Coffey, the Rev. Michael Bowman and Pastor Wayne McElveen officiating.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. today at The Barn on U.S. 15 South.

Memorials may be made to a charity of one's choice.

Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home and Crematorium of Sumter is in charge of the arrangements.
