On Saturday, May 13, 2017, while surrounded by family, our heavenly father requested he come home. At the age of 86, Leroy completed his earthly journey at Palmetto Health Tuomey.
In his early years, Leroy attended Lee County Public Schools. On Dec. 12, 1948, he was united in marriage to Fannie Pearson. He pursued a career at the City of Sumter Public Works Department for more than 20 years, until he retired in 1989. Leroy started his faith journey at the Galilee Baptist Church in Mayesville, where he was an active member, served on the deacon board and enjoyed singing with the choir.
While Leroy's family, extended family and friends do not "weep not as those who have no hope," his sudden and unexpected transition has created a hole in the hearts of many.
Forever to cherish fond memories of Leroy are his wife, Fannie Durant of Sumter; eight daughters, Viola (Prince) Carter, Lelia (John) Yates and Betty (Leroy) Wilson, all of Sumter, Mary Durant of Columbia, Roger Durant, Janie (Lee) Williams, Tracie Durant of Clinton, Maryland, and Amanda Durant of Upper Marlboro, Maryland; one son, Glen Moses of Bishopville; one sister, Catherine Durant Wells of Monticello, New York; nine grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Public viewing will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Job's Mortuary.
Mr. Durant will be placed in the church at 10 a.m. on Saturday for viewing until the hour of service.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday at First United Pentecostal Church, 14 Plowden Mill Road, Sumter, SC 29153 with Pastor Theron Smith officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Memorial Park.
The family will be receiving friends at the home, 2245 Honeysuckle Lane, Sumter, SC 29150.
Job's Mortuary Inc., 312 S. Main St., Sumter, is in charge of arrangements.
