LAMAR BUCK WELLS

Lamar Buck Wells, 97, widower of Violet Elizabeth Keels Wells, died on Wednesday, Dec. 5, 2018, at Palmetto Health Tuomey.

Born in Kingstree, he was a son of the late Robert Ellerby Wells and Dennie Hodge Wells. Mr. Wells was a member of First Southern Methodist Church, American Legion Post 15, and he was a Mason. He was a U.S. Marine Corps World War II veteran. He retired as the assistant fire chief with the Sumter Fire Department with 44 years of service.

Surviving are two sons, Vernon Wells (Kim) of Columbia and Ronnie Wells of Sumter; two daughters, Barbara Wells Rowland (George) of Sumter and June Wells Robinson (Dan) of Columbia; a sister, Mary Dunlap of Aberdeen, North Carolina; three grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Natalie Rowland Segars.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday in the chapel of Elmore Hill McCreight Funeral Home with the Rev. Ellison Evans officiating. Burial will be at Evergreen Memorial Park cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m. on Saturday at Elmore Hill McCreight Funeral Home and other times at the home, 37 Wilson St., until 5 p.m. on Friday.
