Lady Saints win division in challenge tourney

Amberly Way had a walk-off, run-scoring double to lift Clarendon Hall's softball team to a 2-1 victory over Holly Hill Academy in the championship game of the 1A division SCISA/SCHSL Challenge Tournament on Saturday at Palmetto Park.

CH went 5-1 to win the division. It beat Jefferson Davis Academy 14-2 and Holly Hill 5-2 before losing to HH 4-1. The Lady Saints beat JDA 12-1 before topping Holly Hill 4-3 and 2-1.

Way was 8-for-10 with two doubles. McKenzie Bagnal had five hits, including a double and a triple, Madison Kidd was 6-for-13 with a triple and Sydney Wells had two doubles among her five hits.

Lady Barons finish second

Wilson Hall finished second in the 2A/3A division of the SCISA/SCHSL Tournament Challenge on Saturday at Palmetto Park.

The 6-5 Lady Barons defeated Robert E. Lee Academy 8-4 in its opening game. Elliie Hunter picked up the win and 2-for-2 with two RBI. Liza Lowder had two RBI, Karthryn Sistare had an RBI double and Carly Allred scored twice.

WH followed that with a 5-4 triumph over Thomas Heyward. Hunter won again, picking up a double at the plate. Sydeny Jarecki was 2-for-3 with three RBI, Ellie Stone had a double and Becka Noyes and Allred both had two hits.

Wilson Hall lost to Marlboro Academy 8-1. Madison Elmore drove in the lone run.

The Lady Barons got defeated Carolina Academy 4-2. Elmore had two hits, scored twice and had an RBI. Allred had three hits and Drake Ives was the winning pitcher.

WH lost to Marlboro 2-0 in its final game. Jarecki had a double.

Lamar 7

Crestwood 6

LAMAR - Crestwood High School fell to 1-2 with a 7-6 loss to Lamar on Friday at the LHS field.

Abby Lester led the Lady Knights, going 4-for-4 with a run and an RBI. Ashleigh Deibel scored twice.

On Thursday in Lake City, CHS defeated Lake City 8-4. Brittany Epps had three hits, scored three times and drove in two runs. Jada Thompson had two hits, a run and an RBI.

TRACK AND FIELD

SHS finishes second

Sumter High School finished second to White Knoll in the Optimist Relays on Saturday at Sumter Memorial Stadium.

White Knoll had 139 points followed by SHS with 78, Wilson with 65, Thomas Sumter Academy with 64, Crestwood with 39 and Richland One Middle Collegiate with 8.

Winners for the Lady Gamecocks were the 4x400 team of Inayah Lipscomb, Juelle King, Anya Bethea and Nyasia Cummings (4 minutes, 43.42 seconds) and Carolina Alan in the pole vault (8 feet, 6 inches). SHS did have four second-place finishers.

Winners for TSA were Aubrey Stoaddard in the 1, 600 (5:45.72), Taja Hunley in both the long jump (15-08) and triple jump (33-00) and Carmen Silvester in the shotput (31-07)

Pinewood Prep 3

MANNING - Laurence Manning Academy improved to 3-0 with a 6-3 victory over Pinewood Prep on Saturday at Tucker Belangia Diamond.

Braydon Osteen pitched five innings for his first win of the season. Jake Jordan pitched the final two to get the save

Brent Jordan was 2-for-4 to lead the offense.

North Central 2

KERSHAW - Robert E. Lee Academy improved to 3-0 with a 10-2 win over North Central High School on Saturday at the NCHS field.

Jenkins McCollom had two hits to lead the Cavaliers. Bryce Barrett had a hit and walked three times.

Jet Smith started on the mound and pitched three innings. Dylan Dubose worked two innings, while Blaine Hopkins and Hunter McGee each pitched one inning.

On Thursday in Sumter, REL defeated Wilson Hall 7-2. McCollom pitched four innings of 1-run ball, striking out six and walking two while allowing three hits. Dustin Kennedy pitched the final three innings for the save, striking out four and allowing one run.

Robert E. Lee scored five runs in the top of the fifth to open a 7-1 advantage. Barrett and Gavin Melton both had two hits. Melton had an RBI, while McCollom had a hit and an RBI Kennedy had a double with two RBI.

On Wednesday in Lake City, Austin Windham tossed a 3-hit shutout in a 10-0, 6-inning win over Carolina Academy. He struck out seven and walked two.

Dubose was 2-for-4 with a double and two RBI, while McGee had a double and two RBI.

TRACK AND FIELD

Sumter finishes second

Sumter High School finished in second place in the Optimist Relays on Saturday at Sumter Memorial Stadium.

Wilson won with 119 points, while the Gamecocks had 108. White Knoll had 89, Crestwood 55, Thomas Sumter Academy 32 and Richland One Middle Collegiate 29.

Winners for Sumter were Brandon Poston in the 1,600-meter run (4:44.47), the 4x100 relay team (43.93 seconds), the 4x400 relay team (3:37.16) of Shannon Isaac, Poston, Theron Bradford and Sterling McKenzie, the 4x800 relay team of Poston, Noah Bradford, Keron Benbow and Theron Bradford (9:11.86), Deonte Flowers in the high jump (06-02), Phillip Newman in the pole vault (10-06) and Ja'Kheem Heyward in the long jump (22-02).

Crestwood's Terrance McClain won the shot put (45-06). TSA's Triston Furrow was second followed by Crestwood's Zyricq Rufus and Joshua Goodman.
