JOHN W. SCARBOROUGH
John William Scarborough aka "Newt" was born on March 17, 1938, in St. Charles, to the late Maggie Scarborough Copeland and George Gregg Sr. He was a stepson of the late Harry Copeland Sr. In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by his brother, George Gregg Jr.; and his great-grandson, Jason Cornell. John departed this life on Monday, May 14, 2018, in Sumter.John leaves to cherish his memory: his wife of 50 years, Marie Copeland Scarborough; six children, John (Marie) Scarborough Jr., Erline (Henry) Davis, Odell Scarborough, Sonya (Ruben) Haynes, Wayne (Carla) Scarborough and Carolyn (Ryan) Yates; 12 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; sister, Dora (James) Parrott; two sisters-in-law, Anna Copeland and Bertha Mabry (Olen); and a host of other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. on Saturday at St. Mark Four Bridges Baptist Church, 2280 4 Bridges Road, Sumter, with the Rev. Dr. Sammie D. Simmons, pastor, and the Rev. Ernest Brown officiating. Interment will follow at Bradford Cemetery.
A public viewing will be held from 1 to 6 p.m. today at the mortuary.
