MANNING - Jim H. Avins, 84, died on Monday, Sept. 24, 2018, at the home of his son and daughter-in-law.

Born on June 24, 1934, in Sumter, he was a son of the late Pharoah and Maude McLeod Avins. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War and retired from Santee Print Works, where he worked many years as a welder. He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting, fishing, tending to his garden and spending time with family and friends.

Survivors include two sons, Gregory Avins (Janet) of Bennettsville and Jeff Avins (Delanie) of Manning; four grandchildren, Rita Goff (Lance), Crystal Arnette (Ryan), Chris Avins and Holly Avins; a great-grandchild, Lathan Goff; a sister, June Morris of Manning; a sister-in-law, Lorraine Avins of Sumter; and a number of nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by nine siblings.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. today in the Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Tommy Ardis and the Rev. Kenny Griffin officiating. Burial with military honors will be at Evergreen Memorial Park cemetery.

Friends and nephews will serve as pallbearers.

The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. today at Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home and other times at the home of Jeff and Delanie Avins, 1574 Lakeview Drive, Manning.
