JAMES T. RICHARDSON

Posted

On Aug. 1, 1943, in Nyack, New York, the late John L. and Thelma Thompson Richardson, were blessed with their second child, a son whom they named James T. Richardson. "Jimmy," as we all knew him by, received his education in the New York City schools, where he graduated from Theodore Roosevelt High School in Bronx, New York. Jimmy worked for the city of New York as a park director and later for the New York City Transit Authority as a subway conductor, where he retired after more than 25 years of service. Jimmy always visited Sumter, which is where he relocated to after retirement to join his longtime friend, Archie.

Jimmy began attending LaGree AME Church, along with Archie, where he later joined while under the leadership of the Rev. Henry Williams. Jimmy was a faithful member of LaGree, serving on the trustee board, the male chorus, church photographer and a devoted local president of the Sons of Allen. Jimmy loved being around people and loved taking pictures. Before you knew it, he would snap a picture of you in a split second and would politely walk away. Jimmy love the New York Mets and the New York Giants. He traveled to Canada, Las Vegas, cruised many islands, and attended all of the Montgomery family reunions.

Jimmy was affiliated with the Masons under the King Hiram Grand Lodge in Newark, New Jersey, where he received his 33rd Degree.

On July 27, 2018, at the age of 74, Jimmy took his final rest at Palmetto Health Richland in Columbia.

Jimmy leaves to cherish his precious memories: a brother, John L. "Bill" Richardson of Sumter; a sister, Jacqueline Ware of Detroit; brother-in-law, Robert McCrimons of New York City; a special friend, Ida C. Fox; a longtime friend of more than 60 years, Archie Montgomery, and the entire Montgomery family; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends, all of whom will miss Jimmy dearly.

Along with his parents, Jimmy also joins his sister, Norman Ann McCrimons, in heaven.
