Homer McLaurin "Mac" Ridgeway, 64, died on Sunday, July 15, 2018, at his home.

Born in Sumter, he was a son of Mary Elizabeth Bryant Ridgeway and the late William Reuben Ridgeway. Mr. Ridgeway was a member of Eastside Baptist Church. Mac had been a quadriplegic since 1978, after a football injury, and had been an inspiration to his family and to all who knew him.

Surviving are his mother of Sumter; a brother, Ray Ridgeway of Sumter; a sister, Jane Ferguson (George) of Sumter; a special niece, Mandy Wilson (Bruce) of Virginia; two special nephews, Bryan Ridgeway (Emily) and Chase Ferguson (Ashley), both of Sumter; two special great-nieces, Kaylee Wilson and Ella Ridgeway; and a special great-nephew, Will Wilson.

In addition to his mother being his primary caregiver, the family would like to thank his special caregiver of 26 years, Gaile Andrews.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday in the chapel of Elmore Hill McCreight Funeral Home with the Rev. James Baker and the Rev. George Smith officiating. Burial will be at Evergreen Memorial Park cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Kenny Mixon, Jay Hodge, Kenny Bryant, Roy Bryant, Steve Ridgeway and Erik Ridgeway.

Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. E. MacDonald DuBose and cousins.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday at Elmore Hill McCreight Funeral Home and other times at the home, 3050 U.S. 15 South.
