Hattie Mack Pinckney was born on May 7, 1934, in Sumter County, a daughter of the late Roosevelt and Hattie Johnson Mack. She departed this life on Tuesday, Dec. 4, 2018, at Covenant Place of Sumter. At a very early age, she attended Wayman Chapel AME Church. Hattie, affectionately called "Big Ma," received her formal education in the public schools of Sumter County. After graduating from high school, she moved to Brooklyn, New York. Hattie was employed for many years and retired from the garment district after years of dedicated service. Hattie married her childhood sweetheart, Sammy Roy Pinckney, in Brooklyn. Hattie had no children. However, her nieces and nephews loved her dearly.

Her precious memories will be cherished by two sisters-in-law, Katie Mae Mark of Charlotte, North Carolina, and Nancy Dyson of Rosemont, New Jersey; a brother-in-law, Philip Pinckney of Delaware; two devoted nieces and caregivers, Hattie Mack Doughty and Emmaline Croom Alston; her best friend and neighbor, Elease James; and a host of other nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

She was preceded in death by four brothers, Roosevelt, William, Eddie and Richard Mack; and one sister, Rovena Croom.

The family is receiving relatives and friends at the home, 4900 Cane Savannah Road, Sumter.

Homegoing celebration will be held at 1 p.m. today at Wayman Chapel AME Church, 160 N. Kings Highway, Sumter, with the Rev. Dr. Dennis Broughton, pastor.

The remains will be placed in the church at noon.

The procession will leave at 12:20 p.m. from the home.

Burial will be at Wayman Chapel AME Churchyard Cemetery.
