Gloria Jean Sumpter was born on March 30, 1963, in Sumter County. She was the wife of Charles Sumpter III. She departed this life on Sunday, May 13, 2018, at her residence.Gloria was a daughter of the late Matilda Anderson Cummings and James Cummings. Gloria received her education in the public schools of Sumter County, graduating with the class of 1982.

Gloria leaves to cherish her loving memories: one daughter, Lakim Cummings; one son, Christopher Cummings; four grandchildren, Trevon Fullwood, Ty'annia Franklin, Zay'vion Burgess and Elijah Cummings; sisters, Rosa Greene, Josephine Shaw, Bertha Shaw, Betty Brown, Jackie Cummings and Marie Cummings, all of Sumter; one aunt, Hattie King; one uncle, James Anderson of Brooklyn, New York; four sisters-in-law, Leslie Moore Cummings of Boston, Theresa (John) Brunson, Sandra (Willie) Richardson and Lesa Sumpter, all of Sumter; five brothers-in-law, Author Greene, Edward Daniels, Alex Shaw, John Shaw and Glen Sumpter, all of Sumter; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Brandon Cummings; one grandson, Teddrick Fulllwood; three sisters, Janie Daniels, Carrie Cummings and Leslie Cummings; and three brothers, Willie Cummings, Frankie Cummings and Robert Cummings.

Public viewing will be held from 2 to 6 p.m. on Saturday at Job's Mortuary.

Mrs. Sumpter will be placed in the church at 1 p.m. on Sunday for viewing until the hour of service.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday at Salem Chapel & Heritage Center, 101 S. Salem Ave., Sumter, with Pastor Franklin Martin officiating. Interment will follow at Aycook Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at 611 E. Liberty St., Lot 43, Sumter.
