Glaze still in contenion in Carolinas Open

GREENSBORO, N.C. - Former Sumter High School golfer Scott Glaze remained four shots off the lead and in a tie for eighth place after the second round of the 94th Carolinas Open at Starmount Forest Country Club on Tuesday.

Glaze shot an even par 71 in the second round after a 4 under 67 in Monday's first round. That gives him a score of 138 with the final round set for today.

Glaze is in a 5-way tie for eighth. He is tied with Nate Eaton of Raleigh, North Carolina, Kelly Mitchum of Southern Pines, North Carolina, Ryan Tindall of Murrells Inlet and Justin Emmons of Asheboro, North Carolina.

There is a 3-way tie for first at 8 under 134 between Tripp Summerlin of Summerfield, North Carolina, Gray Matthews of Raleigh, North Carolina, and Jerry Haas of Winston-Salem, North Carolina.

Openings left in Churches Challenge

A few openings remain for the afternoon sessions of the 19th annual Churches Challenge Golf Tournament and Praise Rally on Aug. 24-25.

The cost is $45 per golfer and includes the praise dinner on Friday as well as lunch and beverages on Saturday.

Sumter Touchdown Club seeking members, sponsors

The Sumter Touchdown Club presented by FTC is looking for new members and sponsors for the start of its 29th season, which is set for Friday, Aug. 31.

Membership is open to the public. The fee is $100 per year and includes a full buffet breakfast from Shoney's each week along with the ability to participate in all that the TD club offers. Sponsorships are $200 per year.
