New University of South Carolina baseball head coach Mark Kingston gets his first taste of a Southeastern Conference series beginning today, and he couldn't have - or maybe could have - asked for a better series with which to start.

The Gamecocks will welcome defending national champion and second-ranked Florida to Founders Park today for the opening game of a 3-game series.

The Gators come in with a 16-3 overall record. USC brings a 12-5 record into the contest. It defeated Harvard 12-3 on Wednesday to extend its winning streak to five games.

Kingston came in as the head coach after Chad Holbrook was relieved of his duties after five seasons. USC missed the NCAA tournament last year and two of the past three seasons.

Today's 7 p.m. game will pit two of the best junior pitchers in the country against each other - Carolina's Adam Hill and UF's Brady Singer.

After a rough outing in the season opener against Virginia Military Institute, Hill has been tremendous for South Carolina. Hill had consecutive 14-strikeout contests against Charleston Southern and Clemson. He owns a 2-1 win-loss record with a 3.91 earned run average. He has 43 strikeouts in 23 innings and opponents are batting just .115 against him.

Singer is 4-0 with a 2.08 ERA. He has 25 strikeouts against just three walks in 26 innings.

Sophomore Cody Morris will make his fifth start for the Gamecocks in Saturday's 4 p.m. contest. The righty is 3-1 with a 4.05 ERA. Florida will have junior righty Jackson Kowar going to the mound. He is 3-0 with a 2.05 ERA.

Florida will start sophomore righty in Sunday's 1 p.m. game. He is 3-1 with a 1.07 ERA. USC has yet to decide on who it will start.

The games on Friday and Saturday will be on SEC Network Plus. Friday's game will be on the SEC Network's Bases Loaded coverage and Sunday's game will be televised on ESPNU.
