FRANCES B. ABRAMS

Posted

Frances Burgess Abrams was born on May 10, 1932, in Sumter, to the late Abraham and Sarah White Burgess. She was reared in a home full of love and laughter with her three adorable sisters and one big brother. She was united in holy matrimony to the late Silas Abrams Sr., and to this union eight children were born - three beautiful daughters and five handsome sons.

She entered into eternal rest peacefully on Monday, Nov. 26, 2018, at Sumter East Health and Rehabilitation Center.

Mother Frances was educated in the public schools of Sumter County. At an early age, she was taught the value and importance of hard work, especially when it came to providing for her family. She worked for four years at the former Glenn Manufacturing plant in Sumter as a seamstress, and as chambermaid for several hotels - Carolina Inn and Myrtle Beach Inn in Myrtle Beach. Her greatest joy was taking care of her family, and she especially enjoyed cooking and baking for them. She was a lifelong member of Beulah AME Church and accepted God as her personal Savior at an early age. She was a member of the Women's Missionary Society and the Lay Organization.

Her precious memories will forever be cherished by her loving children: daughters, Elizabeth Abrams of the home and Betty Robinson of Dalzell; five sons, Silas (Connie) Abrams Jr., Thomas (Lisa) Abrams, Roney Abrams and Joseph Abrams, all of Sumter, and Michael (Betty) Abrams of Wilmington, North Carolina; one devoted sister, Nellie Louise Burgess of Sumter; one sister-in-law, Ora Lee Abrams; one brother-in-law, David Whaley; nine grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Silas Sr.; a daughter, Barbara Whaley; two sisters, Emma Jean Harry and Margaret Lagrant; one brother, Ulysses Burgess; one son-in law, Melvin Robinson; one brother-in-law, O.T. Abrams; and one sister-in-law, Rebecca Abrams.
