Federal Emergency Management Agency announced that federal disaster assistance is available to South Carolina governments and organizations affected by Florence after President Donald Trump approved a major disaster declaration for the state.

Federal funding is available to state, tribal, eligible local governments and certain private nonprofit organizations in Berkeley, Charleston, Dorchester, Georgetown, Horry, Marion, Orangeburg, and Williamsburg counties on a cost-sharing basis to supplement recovery efforts, states a release from FEMA.
Federal funding is also available on a cost-sharing basis for hazard mitigation measures for all counties and tribes statewide.

Assistance can include no less than 75 percent of eligible costs for debris removal and emergency protective measures taken to save lives, protect property and public health; and no more than 75 percent of the approved costs for hazard mitigation projects by state, tribal and local governments to prevent or reduce long-term risk to life and property from natural or technological disasters.

Application procedures will be explained during briefings which will be announced by recovery officials at a later date.
