Posted

Eloise Carroll Cox, 73, wife of James V. Cox Sr., was born on July 8, 1945, in Sumter, to the late Jesse Carroll Sr. and Ella McFadden Carroll. She departed this life on Wednesday, Nov. 28, 2018, at National Healthcare Center.

Mrs. Cox was a 1963 graduate of Lincoln High School. At an early age, she accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior. She was a member of Salem Missionary Baptist Church. In 1966, she found the love of her life, became an Air Force wife and traveled the world extensively. For Eloise, becoming a mother and grandmother was the greatest joy of her life. Eloise was truly a phenomenal woman. She was full of class, grace, and dignity - a true diva in her own right. Her legacy to her children and grandchildren is inundated with high standards, perseverance and a love and respect for Christ that cannot be wavered.

She leaves to cherish her memory: a loving husband, James; a son, James V. Cox Jr. of Sumter; two daughters, Sharon D. Cox-Beltran of Sumter and Tonya M. (Billy) Artis of Aviano, Italy; four grandchildren, Imani T. Cox, Ariana D. Artis, Anthony D. Artis and Breanna C. Beltran; cousins reared as sisters, Lou Ella Singleton, Nancy Slater and Maxine (James) Holliday; a niece, Sheriol Kelly; a nephew, Clyde Lewis; and a host of grandnieces, grandnephews, other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Jesse Carroll Jr.; two sisters, Louise Carroll and Wilhelmina Williams; and close cousins, Charles "Jeff" Shaw, Carolyn Carter and Sally Meredith.
