Posted

Deloris "Peggy" Manning-Stephens' eternal journey began when she departed this life on Friday, Jan. 5, 2018, at Blue Ridge Nursing Home in Sumter.

She was born on Nov. 8, 1964, to Francena Campbell and the late Brinell "Red" Manning in Sumter. She was nurtured at an early age by her beloved grandmother, Ernestine Balls-Manning.

"Peggy" was preceded in death by her father, Brinell "Red" Manning; her grandmother, Ernestine Balls-Manning; her grandfather, Willie D. "Mutt" Manning; and two uncles, Willie D. Manning Jr. and Stepney Manning.

"Peggy" attended the Sumter public schools of Millwood Elementary and graduated from Sumter High School in 1983. Earlier in her childhood, she became a member of Salem Missionary Baptist Church, where she sang with the choir. Peggy not only attended the schools of Sumter but she also was an employee, in which she was loved by many students.

On May 21, 1988, she was joined in holy matrimony to Ronald Percell Stephens of Clarendon County. This union birthed two beautiful children, Ronald K'Shaun Stephens and Alexandria Tierra Stephens.

"Peggy" leaves her precious memories to her husband, Ronald; one son, K'Shaun Stephens; one daughter, Alexandria Stephens (Dequan China); two grandchildren, Cortez Stephens and Rhylee China, all of Sumter; five sisters, Ernestine Manning of Jersey City, New Jersey, Synetra Walker-Deloach of Charleston and Tiffany (Tavares) Hilton, Crystal Campbell and Shikeema Francis, all of Sumter; five brothers, Brinell Manning Jr. and Anthony Manning of Jersey City and Matthew Campbell, Steve Campbell and Antonia Francis of Sumter; a stepmom she loved dearly, Margie Francis; and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and in-laws.

Her contagious laughter, brilliant sense of humor, beautiful creativity and joyous free spirit will truly and deeply be missed by family, friends and classmates.

Public viewing will be held from 2 to 6 p.m. today at Job's Mortuary.
