Delbert Knox Newman, 80, husband of Mary Hawkins Newman, died on Sunday, June 17, 2018, at KershawHealth Medical Center at Camden.

Born on April 28, 1938, in Sumter, he was a son of the late Marvin Mood Newman and Bobbie Yates Newman. Mr. Newman was a member of Zoar United Methodist Church. He was a retired plumber.

Survivors include his wife of nearly 52 years; two children, Cherlyn Arrants (Gerald) and James A. Hill Jr. (Mary), both of Bishopville; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; one brother, Billy Newman (Maureen) of Sumter; one sister, Frances Lewis of Southport, North Carolina; and a number of nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a son, Wayne Newman; a grandson, Shawn Arrants; seven brothers; and two sisters.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday in the Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Carlisle Lewis and the Rev. George Smith officiating. Burial will be at Zoar Community Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m. on Wednesday at Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral home and other times at the home.
