Back-to-School Bash is set for Aug. 11

The Lost Angels Foundation and Brothers United Outreach will hold its Back-to-School Bash at 4 p.m. Friday, Aug. 11, at Taw Caw Community Center, 1126 Granby Lane, Summerton.

At the event, students will receive free school supplies, personal hygiene items and resources that will assist them in coping with academic, social and personal barriers.

District 2 students are eligible for free meals

Clarendon School District 2 is participating in the Community Eligibility Provision for the 2017-18 school year. This allows all students enrolled in the district to participate in the free breakfast and lunch program without filling out meal applications.

Meals follow the United States Department of Agriculture guidelines for healthy school meals. Call the School Food Service Director at (803) 435-4082 for additional information.

Parents or guardians that do not want their children to participate can speak with Emelina Alfano, director of Food Service, on an informal basis. Parents wanting to make a formal appeal may make a request either orally or in writing to Daniel McCathern, assistant superintendent of Accountability and Personnel, 15 Major Drive, PO Box 1252, Manning, SC 29102, for a hearing to appeal the decision.

Summerton Town Council will meet Tuesday

Summerton Town Council will meet at 6 p.m. Tuesday at Summerton Town Hall, 10 Main St., Summerton.

Council will hear a 2016 audit report from the Hobbs Group and will consider a proposal to sell property on Maryland Drive. Reports from the mayor and staff will be heard, and council will hear public comments.
