Sumter County Council to recognize honored officers

Sumter County Council will recognize recipients of the 2017 American Legion Public Safety Officers of the Year awards during its meeting at 6 p.m. today in County Council Chambers, third floor of Sumter County Administration Building, 13 E. Canal St.

Following the recognition, council will consider:

- Third and final reading of an ordinance to amend the county's 2017 budget to include the purchase of automated spillway gates, valued at $281,000, for Second Mill Pond dam, and the transfer of $500,000 from the county's hospitality fund for the construction of a veterans memorial park on Broad Street Extension adjoining Shaw Air Force Base;

- Second reading of an ordinance to amend the county zoning and development standards regarding the definitions of real estate, contractor, subdivision project and commercial project signs. A public hearing will be held prior to council's vote; and

- First reading of an ordinance to establish and create a special tax district to be known as "Boyles Pond Special Tax District."

County council will also view a presentation by representatives of TRANE Co.

Prior to its regular meeting:

- Sumter County Forfeited Land Commission will meet at 4:45 p.m. in County Council Conference Room to hold an executive session regarding four contractual matters;

- Sumter County Land Use Commission will meet at 5 p.m. in County Council Conference Room to discuss recommendations concerning the Sumter County Sign Ordinance; and

- Sumter County Internal Affairs Committee will meet at 5:30 p.m. in County Council Conference Room to hold an executive session regarding possible appointments to the Accommodations Tax Advisory Board, Alcohol and Drug Abuse Commission, Cultural Commission, Zoning Board of Appeals, Santee-Wateree Regional Transportation Authority, and Planning Commission.
