CORINA D. FOUNTAIN
Funeral services for Corina D. Fountain will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday at Emmanuel United Methodist Church, 803 S. Main St., Sumter, with the Rev. Mavis Stewart officiating. Interment will follow at Hillside Memorial Park, Sumter.
The public may view from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Palmer Memorial Chapel, 304 S. Main St., Sumter.
Corina D. Fountain, 91, transitioned on Saturday, Oct. 13, 2018, in Kennesaw, Georgia.
Born in Alcolu, she was a daughter of the late Ausil and Minnie Taylor Dingle. Corina graduated from Barber Scotia College, receiving her Bachelor's Degree in Education. She began her Christian journey at Westminster Presbyterian Church in Alcolu. After migrating to Virginia with her family, she joined Front Royal Presbyterian Church and later transferred to Williams Chapel CME. While in Virginia, Corina historically became one of the first black educators at Rappahannock County Elementary School during the integration era. She then transferred to Warren County Public Schools, after earning her master's degree from Shenandoah University. In 1991, she returned to Sumter and remained an educator as a professor at Morris College. The family then joined Emmanuel United Methodist Church. Mrs. Fountain was a member of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority Inc. of the Sumter Chapter.
Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James E. Fountain; brother, Woodrow Taylor; and sister, Corrine Dingle.
Survivors include her children, James Edward of San Antonio and the Rev. DeAnna (Melvin) Breeden of Acworth, Georgia; four grandsons, Stephan, Matthew (Raven), Kevin and Malik; six great-grandchildren, Stephan Jr., Amari, Samiah, Austin, Skiiler and Korina; a special daughter, JoAnn (Rob); three special grandchildren, Meagan, Ashley and Isaiah, all of Stephen City, Virginia; two beloved sisters-in-law, Rebecca Taylor of Bridgeport, Connecticut, and Willie Mae Thomas of Orangeburg; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
