The Sumter plant of Continental Tire the Americas LLC, on U.S. 521 South, recently celebrated the official opening of its new cafeteria and serving area. Bernhard Trilken, senior vice president of Manufacturing Tires from Continental's headquarters in Hanover, Germany, inaugurated the space that is part of a state-of-the-art kitchen and refurbished dining hall that has the capacity to seat more than 250 people, according to Pradeep Kumar Rai, spokesman for the Sumter plant.
A ribbon cutting was held with company officials and employees from Germany and Sumter.
"I am delighted to dedicate our new cafeteria kitchen and refurbished dining area to our exceptional employees, and I am sure it will help all of us in developing healthy food habits," said Craig Baartman, plant manager. "We have ensured to include healthy food options in the menu, and, going forward, we will keep on promoting a healthy lifestyle."
The Sumter plant is a TS16949 and ISO 14001 certified and zero-landfill tire manufacturing facility of Continental Tire the Americas LLC.
The plant selected Canteen, a division of Compass Group USA, as its food service provider.
"The best part," said Ashton Elmore, a member of the human relations department, "is that now we have a variety of food including the healthy salad bar and fresh fruit available daily."
