Mr. Cleothria (Cleo) Porter, son of the late Jeff and Everline Porter, was born April 29, 1942 in Red Banks, Mississippi.

He graduated from the public school system in Luxora, Arkansas. He was employed with the City of Tarpon Springs for more than 10 years and then pursued a career with Drisco Asphalt Company for more than 25 years, up until he relocated to South Carolina. He was a member of Mt. Sinai A.M.E. Church, where he worshiped until he became ill. Cleo was a reserved man who enjoyed fishing, gardening, watching sports and the news.

On Tuesday, Jan. 16, 2018, in Florence, God saw it fit to call him home to rest. Cleo was united in holy matrimony to Minnie Lou Porter for more than 46 years, and this union was blessed with five children. He was also a foster parent for many years. He was a loving and devoted son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, uncle and friend.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Bennie Gamble; one sister, Pauline Rinkins; two brothers, Robert Porter and Jeff Lee Porter Jr. Cleo's memories will forever be cherished by his loving wife, Minnie Porter; two devoted daughters, Michelle (Sheldon) Thomas of Effingham, South Carolina; Bernadette (Leron) Carr of Waldorf, Maryland; two sons, Bernie Gamble of Lynchburg, South Carolina, and Tommy (Myra) Gamble of Holiday, Florida; three sisters, Dorothy Porter of Homestead, Florida, Helen White of Luxora, Arkansas, and Anita Wilkes, of Texas; four brothers; Andrew Porter of St. Louis, Missouri, Wilson (Roslyn) Porter of Burlington, Iowa, Otha (Patricia) Porter of Little Rock, Arkansas, and Randy Porter, of Texas; two sister in-laws, Ineatha (Elbert) Graham of Lynchburg, South Carolina, and Pearline Gamble of Lynchburg, South Carolina; one brother in-law, Reverend Andrew Gamble of Sumter; nine aunts and one uncle; 12 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. A host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Public viewing will be held on Sunday, Jan. 21, 2018 from 2 to 6 p.m. at Job's Mortuary.

Mr. Porter will be placed in the church on Monday, Jan. 22, 2018 at 1 p.m. for viewing until the hour of service.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, Jan. 22, 2018 at 2 p.m. at Mt. Sinai A.M.E. Church, 4835 County Road, Lynchburg, South Carolina, with Rev. Marie Webb officiating.

Interment will follow in Edward Cemetery.

Family will receive friends at 7260 Loblolly Road, Lynchburg.
