Hurricane Florence cancellations

Clarendon County Job Fair canceled
MANNING — Central Carolina Technical College has canceled its Sept. 13 Job Fair due to Hurricane Florence. CCTC may reschedule the event at a later date.

Manning City Council meeting rescheduled

MANNING – The City of Manning has moved its regular monthly council meeting from Sept. 17 to Sept. 24 due to Hurricane Florence.

Optimist Club meeting rescheduled

MANNING — The Optimist Club has moved its regular meeting to Sept. 27 due to Hurricane Florence. New club members will be inducted at this meeting. The club’s fundraiser scheduled for Sept. 15 has been moved to Sept. 29.

Farm to Table Supper

MANNING — Main Street Manning's Farm to Table was rescheduled because of Hurricane Florence for 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 25, in the courtyard at Land, Parker and Welch Law Firm, 29 S. Mill St. The dinner will feature dozens of delicious dishes made from locally grown produce and Margaret Holmes’ canned veggies. Ticket holders will feast on tomato/watermelon gazpacho, muscadine sangria, squab, beef from the Cattleman’s Association, pork from Cactus Family Farms, corn pudding, Johnny Mac peas and beans, eggplant parmesan, rice with okra and tomatoes, Italian flat green beans and the Southern staples of cornbread and biscuits. Tickets are $25 each with only a limited number of tickets still available. Tickets can be purchased at Land, Parker and Welch Law Firm and the Clarendon County Chamber of Commerce, 19 N. Brooks St.

New Covenant Presbyterian Church Revival

MANNING — The New Covenant Presbyterian Church, 2833 Alex Harvin Highway, is hosting “Time for Awakening” at 6:30 p.m. Sunday-Wednesday, Sept. 16-19. The featured speaker for the revival will be John Black. The revival is being sponsored by New Covenant and Emmanuel Baptist churches. Dinner will be served in the New Covenant Fellowship Hall at 5:30 p.m. on Sunday and Monday. Everyone is invited to attend.

Scarecrows on Main
MANNING — Main Street Manning is inviting individuals, families, clubs, church groups, civic organizations and businesses to participate in Scarecrows on Main. Groups will create scarecrows or fall decorations on lamp posts throughout downtown Manning. The decorations will be on display for the entire month of October. All that is needed are materials and creativity. Interested groups must register by Sept. 28. Applications are available at Manning City Hall, 29 W. Boyce St.

Coach Gibson Alumni Game

MANNING — The Coach Premuel Gibson Alumni Scholarship Game will be held on Saturday, Sept. 29, at Manning High School. The first game will tip off at 1:30 p.m. with the second game beginning at 3 p.m. Tickets are $7 for adults and $5 for students.

MHS 2018 Homecoming Festivities
MANNING — Manning High School is hosting a Car, Truck & Bike Show as part of its 2018 Homecoming festivities. The event will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. Friday, Sept. 28, on the front lawn at MHS, 2155 Paxville Highway (S.C. 261). The event’s awards ceremony will be held at 6 p.m. Trophies for Best in Show, Best in Custom and Best in Classic will be awarded. The entry fee is $20 per vehicle. The Monarchs’ Pep Rally will immediately follow the Car, Truck & Bike Show at 6:10 p.m.

Anyone interested in tailgating prior to the homecoming game will need to file a registration form with the MHS office and pay a $100 registration fee. The number of tailgating groups has risen from five or six in 2013 to 34 groups in 2017.

MHS is also asking groups to look beyond “tailgating” and reunions to the potential formation of a MHS Alumni Association. Please contact MHS for more information.

Taste of Clarendon

Calling all Ducks

SUMMERTON — The Duck Capital of South Carolina, Summerton, will be hosting DuckFest on Saturdays, Oct. 6 and Oct. 13. On Oct. 6, the festival will feature the DuckFest Fall Open Bass Tournament and The Duck Cup Sporting Clays Tournament. On Oct. 13, a 5K Color Run and Fun Duck Run will be held along with a Meat Calling Contest, a cook-off, a concert and lots more. Movies in the Park

MANNING — The movie “Hotel Transylvania 2” will be shown once the sun sets on Friday, Oct. 12, at Church Street Park at the corner of Church and Rigby streets. Admission is free. Please bring a blanket or chair. In case of inclement weather, the movie will be shown at the Manning Fire Department’s Training Room.

Inaugural Teacher’s Ball

MANNING — The 1865 Reading Academy is presenting the Inaugural Teacher’s Ball at 7 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 20, at The Matrix Center, 4648 Kingstree Highway in Manning. Advance tickets for the ball are $50 per couple and $30 for individual tickets. Proceeds from the ball will go toward school supplies for teachers and the 1865 Reading Academy. Trick or Treat on Main Street

MANNING — Main Street Manning is hosting Trick or Treat on Main Street from 3 to 5 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 27, in the downtown Manning area. Businesses and groups are encouraged to participate in the carnival-style trick or treat event by setting up tents, tables and booths with candy or other giveaways.
