Clarendon District 2's fine arts extravaganza is March 16


Clarendon School District 2's annual fine arts extravaganza will be held at 6 p.m. today at Weldon Auditorium, 7 Maple St., Manning. This program will feature a display of artwork and performances by students in grades K-12. Billie Jean Shaw, WIS-TV reporter and a 2009 graduate of Manning High School, will serve as mistress of ceremonies.

Volunteers from AARP will offer free tax preparation from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Mondays and Wednesdays through April 12 at the Shepherd's Center, 24 Council St. Applicants are advised to bring the following with them: photo ID; Social Security cards for all household members being claimed; tax documents - W-2 forms, 1099R, 1099SSA, interest income and all other income statements; 2015 tax returns and power of attorney forms if filing for someone other than yourself. The Lincoln High School Preservation Alumni Association will sponsor a dinner fundraiser from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Friday, March 17, at the Lincoln High School cafeteria, Council Street. The 17th Annual Cavalier Pride Auction will be held on Saturday, March 18, at Robert E. Lee Academy in Bishopville. The Sumter County Sheriff's Office Boys and Girls Youth Inc. will hold its first fundraising banquet at 7 p.m. on Friday, March 31, at the Imperial Restaurant, 451 Broad St. Rep. J. David Weeks will serve as keynote speaker. This year's theme is "Above and Beyond Expectations." Tickets are available at the Sumter County Sheriff's Office for a donation of $25 per person. The Rembert Area Community Coalition's 5th Annual Spring Parade will be held from 10 a.m. to noon on Saturday, April 8. The parade will begin at the Rembert Community Car Wash and continue onto Lee Street, along Young Street, down McLeod Chapel Road, down Pisgah Road, onto U.S. 521 and end at 8420 Camden Highway. The parade will be followed by a family and friends event until 3 p.m. There will be food, beverages, live music and entertainment and more.
