CHAUNSEY DELOF LEMMON

Chaunsey DeLof Lemmon was born on April 14, 1960, in Sumter, a son of Agnes Pringle Spencer and Alfred Spencer of South Carolina. He departed his earthly journey on Tuesday, May 14, 2019, at Prisma Health Tuomey Hospital.

"Chaunsey," as he was affectionately called, accepted Christ as his personal Savior and joined Emmanuel United Methodist Church. In his youth, he attended the public schools of Sumter County and was a 1978 graduate of Sumter High School. While in high school, he was the assistant trainer for the boys basketball, football and track and field. He also attended Morris College.

Chaunsey had more than 25 years of coaching city league/boys club basketball teams. During his tenure, he journeyed to Pusan, South Korea, where he coached the Army Men's Basketball team to the "11th Korean-American Friendship Day Basketball Game" Championship.

Surviving to cherish his memories are his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Spencer; four brothers, Eugene Lemmon Jr., Boyston E. Lemmon, Alfred Spencer III and Thomas L. Lemmon; four sisters, Brenda Y. Lemmon, Yolanda Spencer (Lonnie) Musgrove, LaTrelle Chambers and Phedra Frierson; sister-in-law, Ernestine (Hobbs) Lemmon; a very special nephew who was treated like a sibling, Eugene Lamont Lemmon; uncles, Johnny Pringle Jr. and Daniel Spencer; aunts, Patricia A. Spencer Goode, Nevetta Ferguson, Sara Walker, Lorraine Felder and Rebecca Pringle; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents; one sister, Adrienne Spencer Poole; one brother, Williard Dalton Lemmon; eight aunts; and eight uncles.

Public viewing will be held from 2 to 6 p.m. today at Job's Mortuary.

Mr. Lemmon will be placed in the church at 11 a.m. on Thursday for viewing until the hour of service.

Funeral services will be held at noon on Thursday at Emmanuel United Methodist Church, 401 S. Main St., Sumter, SC 29150.

Interment will follow at Fort Jackson National Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the mortuary on the eve of the funeral service.
