Born on April 21, 1959, in Lee County, he was a son of the late Eddie Samuel and Everlena Toney and stepson of the late William Fred Toney. Due to Charles' developmental challenges, he attended Disability Board and Special Needs School, where he enjoyed going on field trips, bowling and crafts.
He leaves to cherish his memory: four sisters, Pearllena (Aubrey) Lewis of Severn, Maryland, Evelyn Samuel, Darlene S. (Michael) Hodge and Tiffny D. Samuel, all of Sumter; 11 brothers, James Peterson, William Toney Jr., Elijah (Evelyn) Toney and Paul Toney, all of Sumter, Silas Toney of Fayetteville, North Carolina, Jerry (Linda) Jennings, Isaac Samuel of Sumter, Edward Samuel of North Carolina, Dennis Samuel of Mayesville, David Samuel of Bishopville and Willie Samuel of Columbia; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
The family is receiving relatives and friends at the home, 3060 Queen Chapel Road, Sumter.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday at John Wesley Williams Sr. Memorial Chapel, Williams Funeral Home Inc., 821 N. Main St., Sumter, with Minister Jake Sanders III officiating.
The funeral procession will leave at 1 p.m. from the home.
Burial will be at Goodwill Presbyterian Churchyard cemetery.
