BETTY RICE BARGER

Betty Rice Barger, 89, widow of Irvin Franklin "Frank" Barger, died on Wednesday, Feb. 26, 2020, at Prisma Health Tuomey Hospital.

Born in Black Mountain, North Carolina, she was a daughter of the late Robert Henry Rice and Georgiana Spearman Rice. As a member of Grace Baptist Church, she faithfully served in the past on the Wednesday night suppers, as a Sunday morning door greeter and as her Sunday school class secretary. She was a long-time employee of First Federal Savings & Loan and retired from Farmers Telephone Co. in 2007.

Survivors include a son, Bob Barger (Judy) of Guntersville, Alabama; a daughter, Fran Bauer (Jeremy) of Sumter; three grandsons, Frank Barger (Jennifer) of Huntsville, Alabama, Jason Bauer (Laurie) of Sumter and Ryan Bauer (Aubrey) of Johns Island; eight great-grandchildren, Grant Barger, Abbegale Bauer, Wyatt Bauer, Georgia Bauer, Emmerson-Wyn Bauer, Olliver Bauer, Ellory Bauer and Emmett Bauer; and a sister, Ethel Davidson of Swannanoa, North Carolina.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by six brothers, Al Rice, John Rice, Ernest Rice, Luther Rice, Claude Rice and Jack Rice; and six sisters, Bellva Rice, Nell Crocker, Myrtle Payne, Mary Clayton, Sara Wilson and Faye Talbot.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday at Grace Baptist Church with the Rev. Steve Shumake officiating. Burial will follow at Evergreen Memorial Park cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Frank Barger, Jason Bauer, Ryan Bauer, Wyatt Bauer, Mike Lynn and Jerry Hughes.

The family will receive friends from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. Sunday in the Grace Baptist Church sanctuary.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Grace Baptist Church, 219 W. Calhoun St., Sumter, SC 29150.

Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home and Crematorium of Sumter is in charge of the arrangements.
