Funeral services for Elizabeth Virginia Carter will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday at Jehovah Missionary Baptist Church, 803 S. Harvin St., with Pastor Marion H. Newton officiating. Interment will follow at Unionville AME Church cemetery, St. Charles.

The public may view from 2 to 6 p.m. today at Palmer Memorial Chapel, 304 S. Main St., Sumter.

Ms. Carter will be placed in the church at 1:30 p.m. for viewing until the hour of service.

The family will receive friends at her residence, 375 Rolling Creek Drive, Sumter, SC 29153.

Elizabeth Virginia "Ginger" Carter transitioned on Sunday, July 16, 2017, at Sumter Health and Rehabilitation Center.

Born in Lee County, she was one of nine children born to the late Robert Carter Sr. and Dora Mae Brunson Carter. Elizabeth Virginia was educated in the public schools of Sumter County and graduated from Lincoln High School in 1967. After graduation, she relocated to Huntington Station, New York. She later returned to Sumter to assist with the care of her younger siblings. Elizabeth Virginia was employed with New Beginnings at Warth Child Care of Sumter (the former Warth Child Care Center). At an early age, Elizabeth Virginia joined Unionville AME Church in St. Charles, where she began her Christian experience. She later joined Jehovah Missionary Baptist Church of Sumter. Her endearing love for her children and family will last in their hearts throughout eternity.

Elizabeth Virginia was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Linda Diane Pack; and two brothers, John Lee "Mack" Carter and Gaston Barney Carter.

Survivors include her children, Timothy Dwayne (Angel) Carter of Kings Mountain, North Carolina, Tammie (Jerry) Jenkins of Orangeburg, Kelley Carter of Rockmart, Georgia, and Shawn (Latoya) Carter of Jonesboro, Georgia; 10 grandchildren; one brother, Robert (Ann) Carter Jr. of Sumter; four sisters, Patricia (Earl) Lancaster of Richmond, Virginia, Debbie (James) Rembert, Gloria Jean (Roger) Solomon and Kathy Maples, all of Sumter; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
